Hello, dear readers. Inherent in the mission statement of The Bright Side Project is the unspoken belief that to “Do What You Love, Love What You Do” is an absolutely essential component in creating a happy and healthy lifestyle. Every now and then, we will bestow a person with the title “Ambassador of Sunshine” and ask them to answer a few short questions on the ideas of happiness, creativity and sunshine. We hope these rays of light help inspire you to find the sunshine in your day, today and everyday.
Please introduce yourself to our readers and explain a little bit about your business.
My name is Lynn Liss and I am COO and Co-Founder of AOK. I make sure the company is operating efficiently and support our strategic roadmap.
It’s a new kind of kind.
AOK is a ‘social game for good’ that makes sharing positive actions playful, rewarding and impactful. When you post an AOK (any positive action or observation) you’re rewarded with Cause Currency points (or sponsored prizes) which are donated to real world causes and organizations that further social good!
We believe that one of the ways to achieve happiness is to “Do what you love, love what you do.” How does this philosophy apply to your life?
We’re in such an exciting time seeing a burst of ‘socially good’ business sprouting up everywhere. I know personally many of these startups and can also say first hand that we’re all doing this out a pure passion and love for the ideas that spurred us to ‘start something up’. In addition, there is a nourishing eco-system being created, both among these social entrepreneurs, in addition to within each of our own lives that I think can, and is, being replicated within other sectors of business. The eco-system is very heavy in collaboration and sharing amongst peers and amongst competition. The eco-system is an organic blend between your personal and work life, each feeding of the other. The eco-system is something that every social entrepreneur is experiencing and embracing and we’re only just beginning to understand it’s positive ramifications.
Our mission here at The Bright Side Project is to spread sunshine on a daily basis because we firmly that life is (still) beautiful. Where do you find beauty and inspiration?
My knee jerk was to say my two amazing boys Hudson and Spencer, but actually the human interdependency of all living things in and around my life (which luckily includes my boys) is most inspirational. Because my business AOK is so embracing of positive social connections (AOK is a game and online community that makes sharing positive action playful, impactful and rewarding) I’m constantly looking deeply and mindfully at the smallest of inter-connections made on a daily basis, all around me, all around us. Whether it’s the way my boys will share a toy, or someone holding a door or smiling at something they see in passing; while I know it’s a cliché to say ‘stop and smell the roses’ I feel so fortunate that this very action not only enriches my personal experience…but serves as inspiration for the exciting roadmap we’re constantly iterating for AOK.
Have you spread some sunshine recently or have you witnessed a random act of kindness?
My girlfriend and I recently swooped in to support a friend who lives out of town who is going through a tough time.
How did the recipient react and what was your personal reaction?
We all agreed it was a reviving trip
On a dreary day, what do you do to infuse your life with a little bit of sunshine?
Turn on music. Go on a walk. Enjoy a peppermint patty. Take a deep breath. Watch the world buzz around me. Smile. Really listen to someone. Create small adventures out of the mundane. Try a new dance. Read something original. Do it all again, but differently.
What are you most grateful for?
The bonds I’ve created in life.
Thank you, Lynn, for sharing your sunshine with us!
