Sunshine Post – Aeropagita Prints

Tuesday, May 22, 2012

Hello, dear readers. One special new feature we’ve added this year is the occasional spotlight on one of our contributors. Inherent in the mission statement of The Bright Side Project is the unspoken belief that to “Do What You Love, Love What You Do” is an absolutely essential component in creating a happy and healthy lifestyle. Every now and then, we will ask our contributors to answer a few short questions on the ideas of happiness, creativity and sunshine. We hope these rays of light help inspire you to find the sunshine in your day, today and everyday.

Today we are honored to introduce you to Mishel from Aeropagita Prints!

1. Please introduce yourself to our readers and explain a little bit about your business.

My name is Mishel Valenton and I’m the owner and artist behind Aeropagita Prints. I sell archival prints of my artwork on Etsy and also on other online stores such as Down That Little Lane and Little Paper Planes.

2. We believe that one of the ways to achieve happiness is to “Do what you love, love what you do.” How does this philosophy apply to your life?

I feel so grateful and blessed to be able to do what I love which is create art and also to actually receive feedback from people all over the world. Happiness is so multi-faceted but having fulfilling work is definitely a huge part of it. Before I started Aeropagita Prints, I think I was pretty miserable with both my art and the work that I had and it took a huge leap of faith to start this endeavor. Every moment since then has been so unbelievably precious. I urge everyone who has a dream to definitely go after it and know that the only way to rid yourself of the fear is to just do it.

3. Our mission here at The Bright Side Project is to spread sunshine on a daily basis because we firmly that life is (still) beautiful. Where do you find beauty and inspiration?

Lately, I have found nature to be very inspiring. I wasn’t always this appreciative of nature. I grew up in the Philippines and we had very lush greenery, trees, bromeliads and orchids in the garden. Sometimes when you’re in that kind of environment you lose sight of its beauty but now that I’ve been living in Brooklyn the past 4 years or so, I’ve just fallen in love with natural environments. I go to the beach every week to just unwind, breathe and look at the ocean which awesome to look at. I also love going to the Brooklyn Botanical Garden just to lay down on the grass. Nature, spring and summer are my muses I think.

4. On a dreary day, what do you do to infuse your life with a bit of sunshine?

Today was pretty dreary with the weather. I think you just have to take the dreary days in stride. Know that there will be good days and bad days. When I feel particularly dreary and without energy, I sleep in a little longer than usual and give myself a break. What I find is that if you force yourself to do something that your heart and body does not want to do, things do not turn out well. Its okay to take a break now and then. The next day will usually be a lot better.

5. At this very moment, what are you most grateful for?

I am so grateful for the past year I’ve had with the business, creating and learning new things on a daily basis. I am amazed at how people have supported my work. I am extremely grateful for my family and my boyfriend who have helped me. This might be the most grateful I’ve ever been in my life and hopefully the feeling grows.
