Hello, dear readers. Inherent in the mission statement of The Bright Side Project is the unspoken belief that to “Do What You Love, Love What You Do” is an absolutely essential component in creating a happy and healthy lifestyle. Every now and then, we will ask our contributors to answer a few short questions on the ideas of happiness, creativity and sunshine. We hope these rays of light help inspire you to find the sunshine in your day, today and everyday.
Today we are honored to introduce you to Debbie from AHC.
Please introduce yourself to our readers and explain a little bit about your business.
My name is Debbie Carlos. I’m primarily a photographer (http://debbiecarlos.com) but decided to start making jewelry as a fun little side business. I still do it simply for the joy of working with my hands and making pretty things to wear. I love how different the process of jewelry making is from photography. I love the tools, I love the materials. Its an area I have always dabbled in since I was young but having never studied it as extensively as I have for photography, I still feel a sense of freedom when I create my bracelets, rings and necklaces.
We believe that one of the ways to achieve happiness is to “Do what you love, love what you do.” How does this philosophy apply to your life?
Believe me, I have worked in office administration for many many years so I know the value of doing what you love. I feel so lucky to be able to do what interests me everyday and still be able to make a living. I definitely can’t count on things like a steady paycheck but it comes with the territory and thats totally fine with me. I am so much happier now.
Our mission here at The Bright Side Project is to spread sunshine on a daily basis because we firmly believe that life is (still) beautiful. Where do you find beauty and inspiration?
I find beauty in the everyday, in the unexpected. It is the driving force of my whole body of work. In my photography, I may highlight the beautiful way pieces of cut paper have fallen on the floor or how a hanging plant sits in my kitchen sink looks. In my jewelry I enjoy stringing various beads of different color, shapes, materials together on a chain to create a strange but interesting collage. Beauty from spontaneity, beauty from the unintentional.
On a dreary day, what do you do to infuse your life with a little bit of sunshine?
Pie and coffee. I may substitute a cookie for the pie if pie is unavailable.
At this very moment, what are you most grateful for?
My husband, my cat and my bunny.
