Today we are honored to introduce you to Britta Ambauen.
Please introduce yourself to our readers and explain a little bit about your business.
Hello Bright Side Readers! I’m pleased to connect with a community of positivity. I strongly believe that the thoughts we revisit everyday are immensely powerful. We control our perception of the word, and change it with out actions and words. Positive thought directly leads to a better world.
I strive to infuse meaning into each piece of jewelry I make, with the hope that it will serve as a little reminder to the wearer of something they feel is important. For example, one special design features an intricate skeleton, focused on the pelvis, spine and rib cage. Behind, is a silver disc etched with words, “my bones are not made of glass.” The piece was inspired by a quote my friend shared with me when I was trying to decide if I would quit my job in advertising and pursue my jewelry business full time. Her meaning was, “you are stronger than you think you are. You can take life’s knocks. If it doesn’t work out, you won’t shatter or break. Take a chance.” Good advice, wise friend.
We believe that one of the ways to achieve happiness is to “Do what you love, love what you do.” How does this philosophy apply to your life?
The philosophy to “Do what you love, love what you do” resonates deeply with me. I feel extremely lucky to do a job I love, to be creative on a daily basis, and to be my own boss. The work I do feels like an investment in myself and the people I love, rather than a stepping stone to somewhere else. I enjoy life today, rather than living in the “I’ll be happy when…” camp. Although, perhaps “lucky” is the wrong word for how I feel. Many people helped me create this job and lifestyle that I love (and I am so grateful to my family, friends and mentors!), but I had to choose it, and stick with it through hard times. I believe that making one’s dreams a reality is more about choice than luck.
Our mission here at The Bright Side Project is to spread sunshine on a daily basis because we firmly believe that life is (still) beautiful. Where do you find beauty and inspiration?
Water is a pretty big happiness-infuser for me. I lived in Colorado for years and LOVED it, but always missed being near big bodies of water. Maybe it’s the open space created by a body of water? The freshness of it? I’m not sure, but whenever possible I like to actually get in big bodies of water. It makes me feel extra alive. Now, I live in Tacoma, WA and I have the luxury of jogging along the waterfront with my faithful, adorable dog, Bodie. She, while we’re on the subject ,is another major positivity enhancer:)
On a dreary day, what do you do to infuse your life with a little bit of sunshine?
I cook. Preferably, something that can simmer all day and fill the whole house with delicious, warming, nurturing smells. (One of the perks of working at home is kitchen access). My big, red, lidded, Le Crueset pot is one of my best friends. Spicy black beans. French onion soup. Tandoori chicken. Braised rump roast and veggies. Slow roasted butternut squash. When my boyfriend comes home, and it’s already dark at 5:30 because we live in the Northwest, the house feels warm and welcoming and there’s a love-infused meal ready. Today, I’m trying Julia Child’s boeuf bourguignon. The smell is rich and wine-y.
What are you most grateful for?
Family. Friends. My health.
