Sunshine Post :: Curly Willow Collections

Tuesday, October 23, 2012

Hello, dear readers. Inherent in the mission statement of The Bright Side Project is the unspoken belief that to “Do What You Love, Love What You Do” is an absolutely essential component in creating a happy and healthy lifestyle. Every now and then, we will ask our contributors to answer a few short questions on the ideas of happiness, creativity and sunshine. We hope these rays of light help inspire you to find the sunshine in your day, today and everyday.

Today we are honored to introduce you to Vicki from Curly Willow Collections.

Please introduce yourself to our readers and explain a little bit about your business.

I love design! So my shop is my way of helping me to express myself, through color, pattern and typography. I just love PRETTY, I’m a Virgo… we are kinda “pretty-freaks!” I am also a perfectionist and so sometimes it takes me a long time to design something I think is fabulous and I feel real good about putting in my shop. I have a ton of designs sitting on my computer and I will revisit often until I think it’s perfect. I try not to get caught up when something in my shop sells… but when my iPhone goes, “cha-ching,” (it really does make that sound when there’s a sale) I gotta do a happy dance! All the cool people say not to get caught up, so, since I’m really a geek… I guess I can get caught up and my happy dance is okay! ;)

We believe that one of the ways to achieve happiness is to “Do what you love, love what you do.” How does this philosophy apply to your life?

I love this question because I did a series of art prints and this is similar to one of the quotes on the print.

Plus, I loved them so much, I ordered coffee mugs with this art too!

So, in order of appearance, it truly is a motto I try to live by. I’m hoping one day, I can earn a living through my shop. Or I hope one day I become independently wealthy and just design all day if I want to. But I also have a huge desire to own a brick and mortar shop full of lovely, pretty things from vintage chippy furniture, to fabulous modern art prints and lots and lots of original art from local artisans… imagine if everything in the Etsy shop were things you could see, feel and touch. That would be near heaven to me!

Our mission here at The Bright Side Project is to spread sunshine on a daily basis because we firmly that life is (still) beautiful. Where do you find beauty and inspiration?

Life is inside you, your passion, your attitude and your service to others. I try to be helpful and happy each day. Don’t get me wrong, I am human and things get me down or upset me, but I know those feelings will pass. I have a great relationship with my husband, my children and my heavenly Father. And what I can’t laugh away, I can give to God and ask him to take care of it. As they say beauty is in the eye of the beholder, my eyes are full.

On a dreary day, what do you do to infuse your life with a little bit of sunshine?

Dreary Days make great photos! Especially in the RAIN!

What are you most grateful for?

I have the most gratitude for my God, my husband, and my children. Truly without them, I am not a happy camper. I need my peeps around me! I get labeled Mom a lot and I LOVE that label. I love taking care of people. I just taught my son and three of his friends who to make lasagna tonight… I was in heaven! So much fun to teach, cook and hang out with great teenagers!
