Hello, dear readers. Inherent in the mission statement of The Bright Side Project is the unspoken belief that to “Do What You Love, Love What You Do” is an absolutely essential component in creating a happy and healthy lifestyle. Every now and then, we will ask our contributors to answer a few short questions on the ideas of happiness, creativity and sunshine. We hope these rays of light help inspire you to find the sunshine in your day, today and everyday.
Today we are honored to introduce you to Cynthia from Cynthia Vardhan Ceramics.
Please introduce yourself to our readers and explain a little bit about your business.
I’m Cynthia, I live and work in downtown Columbus, Ohio, and I’ve been making ceramics since I was 13. I make a line of fine porcelain home accessories which includes vases, jars, candles, garden markers, magnets and decorative dishes. Everything is truly handmade from the clay itself, to the colors used, to throwing each piece individually on the wheel to decorating it myself, line by line. It is a satisfying labor of love.
We believe that one of the ways to achieve happiness is to “Do what you love, love what you do.” How does this philosophy apply to your life?
I am truly doing what I love. I quit my day job to pursue this dream of making a living from making ceramics and I’m happy to say that I’m “living the dream.” My personal favorite quote, which I think applies to your philosophy is “How you spend your days is how you spend your life.” I have it cross-stitched, framed and prominently displayed in my studio to remind me to pay attention to each day and make sure I’m doing what I love. That way I can say that I’ve spent my life doing what I love and loving what I’ve done!
Our mission here at The Bright Side Project is to spread sunshine on a daily basis because we firmly that life is (still) beautiful. Where do you find beauty and inspiration?
I find beauty and inspiration in the urban outdoors- anything from London, NYC to downtown Columbus, OH where my studio is. The combination of buildings and trees and sky make up for some beautiful juxtapositions. My studio is in my 3rd floor attic and I have huge trees in my small yard. Every window looks out onto the upper reaches of the trees and through these I get to see beautiful sunsets over the Columbus skyline most evenings. It’s great- an indoor treehouse
On a dreary day, what do you do to infuse your life with a little bit of sunshine?
Blast some kicking tunes. I have several playlists solely dedicated to awesome upbeat cheer up music. And coffee, that helps too.
At this very moment, what are you most grateful for?
I am very grateful for my beautiful studio, with its view and my fluffy studio kitty. Not to mention getting to “work” up there all day.
