Hello, dear readers. Inherent in the mission statement of The Bright Side Project is the unspoken belief that to “Do What You Love, Love What You Do” is an absolutely essential component in creating a happy and healthy lifestyle. Every now and then, we will ask our contributors to answer a few short questions on the ideas of happiness, creativity and sunshine. We hope these rays of light help inspire you to find the sunshine in your day, today and everyday.

Today we are honored to introduce you to Amanda from Dorothy Jeanne.

Please introduce yourself to our readers and explain a little bit about your business.

Hi, I’m Amanda Knee, a graphic designer and decorator in Portland, OR. I’ve always loved collecting vintage stuff, and decided it’d be fun to share my finds with others. I also love design, and to escape the boredom of my corporate job, I started designing fabric and art prints. All of this led to the start of my shop! I hope to bring fun and inspiration to the homes of others.

We believe that one of the ways to achieve happiness is to “Do what you love, love what you do.” How does this philosophy apply to your life?

Like I mentioned before, I wasn’t loving the design work I was doing at my day job, so I took matters into my own hands and started doing the work I loved. It’s amazing how satisfying it is when others love what you do, too! 🙂

Our mission here at The Bright Side Project is to spread sunshine on a daily basis because we firmly believe that life is (still) beautiful. Where do you find beauty and inspiration?

I find beauty and inspiration in my surroundings. One of the main reasons I moved to Portland from the Midwest was the beautiful landscape. I’m continually inspired by colors and patterns found in nature and spending time outdoors always puts me in a good mood.

On a dreary day, what do you do to infuse your life with a little bit of sunshine?

We have plenty of dreary days in Portland, but one thing that cheers me up is baking my grandma’s recipe for oatmeal chocolate chip cookies.

At this very moment, what are you most grateful for?

I’m very grateful for family and friends, and that I am following my dream of having my own business.
