Sunshine Post :: Fogle Bags

Tuesday, October 30, 2012

Hello, dear readers. Inherent in the mission statement of The Bright Side Project is the unspoken belief that to “Do What You Love, Love What You Do” is an absolutely essential component in creating a happy and healthy lifestyle. Every now and then, we will ask our contributors to answer a few short questions on the ideas of happiness, creativity and sunshine. We hope these rays of light help inspire you to find the sunshine in your day, today and everyday.

Today we are honored to introduce you to Tamara from Fogle Bags.

Please introduce yourself to our readers and explain a little bit about your business.

I am Tamara, from London, England. I live and work in Notting Hill, and love it here. I’ve been running the ‘Fogle’ bag business for 5 years now. I work with a great team, and we make all the bags, from beginning to end, right here in London, using a variety of wonderful antique textiles and Italian leathers. Being so close to, and involved with the production means I can guarantee the quality of every bag. I source materials, design, make, sell, package, use….I am involved with every process of the bag and the business, although it is the fabric sourcing and the making (where the ideas begin) that I really love. I sell through stores worldwide, and also through my own online store. I just got back from a show in LA, so FOGLE bags are soon to be seen in a few more places Stateside next season! You’ll have to keep an eye on the website to see where. I’m very excited.

We believe that one of the ways to achieve happiness is to “Do what you love, love what you do.” How does this philosophy apply to your life?

What a great philosophy. I haven’t ever put it quite as literally as that…but I honestly do “Do what (I) love, love what (I) do.”! I love being creative, having ideas, making things. I love bags (obviously!). I love the fact a bag can bring so much satisfaction to me, in the making of it….and so much happiness to its new owner. My customers certainly seem very happy on receipt of their new purchases. They often write to tell me so!

Our mission here at The Bright Side Project is to spread sunshine on a daily basis because we firmly that life is (still) beautiful. Where do you find beauty and inspiration?

Inspiration is anywhere where there is history! I love vintage, the more worn, the better! Some of the textiles I use date back as far as the late 1800’s. I feel like I am bringing history to life by re-using them and giving them a new and contemporary purpose.

On a dreary day, what do you do to infuse your life with a little bit of sunshine?

If it’s a little dreary, the first thing i do is head straight to Hyde Park and walk my dogs. They never seem to mind if it is dreary, and that carefree attitude always rubs off a little. Then I’ll head back to work, or home, and light lots of candles. I’m immediately happier.

At this very moment, what are you most grateful for?

This very minute? Honestly?…that my leather supplier had ordered just a bit too much yellow leather, so I could pick up another bundle today and start cutting immediately, instead of having to wait weeks for it to be re-ordered! Production hiccups that are smoothly overcome are very satisfying!

That is the honest truth this minute, but on a wider scale, I am very grateful for having the most wonderful family, home, and health. A friend of ours is not so healthy right now, and it certainly puts your worries into perspective.
