Hello, dear readers. Inherent in the mission statement of The Bright Side Project is the unspoken belief that to “Do What You Love, Love What You Do” is an absolutely essential component in creating a happy and healthy lifestyle. Every now and then, we will ask our contributors to answer a few short questions on the ideas of happiness, creativity and sunshine. We hope these rays of light help inspire you to find the sunshine in your day, today and everyday.
Today we are honored to introduce you to Gina from Hettle Textile.
Please introduce yourself to our readers and explain a little bit about your business.
Hello, I’m Gina and making things makes me happy. As an art school graduate and a photographer/graphic designer by trade it is a true joy to step away from the computer and make things by hand. Years ago when I purchased my home, I saved money and borrowed a friends sewing machine to make pillows and drapes, soon after some friends and family asked if I could do the same for their homes; that was the beginning. In 2008 I opened my Etsy shop, Hettle. As a single mom of two kids I was looking for a second job to supplement my income but needed to be sure that, whatever is was, I was having fun and passionate about it. Today my etsy shop
has evolved into Hettle Textile, with my products now being sold in stores. In the coming year my goal is to completely support my family with my textile business and to bring my customers original products from my creative point of view: cozy & modern for everyday life.
We believe that one of the ways to achieve happiness is to “Do what you love, love what you do.” How does this philosophy apply to your life?
Doing what you love is essential for living a content life. With my work I am lucky to actually be able to show my children this in a tangible way and have them be involved in not only making products, but making a business. I tell them as often as possible to find what they love to do and work hard everyday on doing it better and that is the key to a happy life.
Our mission here at The Bright Side Project is to spread sunshine on a daily basis because we firmly believe that life is (still) beautiful. Where do you find beauty and inspiration?
All of my inspiration and obsession with texture and color is derived from nature. The perfect never-ending resource is right outside my door.
On a dreary day, what do you do to infuse your life with a little bit of sunshine?
My secret to improving a dreary day…change my outfit, it’s an instant mood boost. Oh, and a great comedy podcast always perks me up, too.
At this very moment, what are you most grateful for?
At this moment I am grateful for the life I lead, and the family I have; very, very grateful.
