Today we are honored to introduce you to Angela from Knuckle Kiss Jewelry.

Please introduce yourself to our readers and explain a little bit about your business.

My name is Angela and I live and work in Seattle, Washington. I design and handmake a line of jewelry called Knuckle Kiss.

The collection is bold and modern and incorporates the organic details of handcrafted work. I like playing around with minimalism, mixing metals, and creating everyday pieces that are distinctive but also versatile.

I make my pieces using traditional metalsmithing techniques, though I occasionally employ modern production methods. Using American-made materials is important to me, so I work primarily with US-milled metals, recycled sterling silver, and US-made jewelry components.

The act of “making” is one of life’s greatest pleasures. I feel very fortunate to be able to experiment with jewelry making as a business. I officially launched Knuckle Kiss in early 2013, so it’s still a new venture to me. I’m excited to see where it goes.

We believe that one of the ways to achieve happiness is to “Do what you love, love what you do.” How does this philosophy apply to your life?

I don’t think you need to “do what you love, love what you do” in order to be happy. But I think if you allow yourself to follow your curiosity, you will find life to be more interesting and meaningful.

At least that’s been the case with me. I’ve always had a lot of different interests. I’m generally a cautious person, but when it has come to pursuing things that interest me, I have a track record of just going for it. In the past, I was a little critical of this, thinking I was incapable of committing to any single pursuit, but looking back I don’t regret my decisions. The time I’ve spent pursuing different things has made me better a designer and a more patient maker.

Our mission here at The Bright Side Project is to spread sunshine on a daily basis because we firmly believe that life is (still) beautiful. Where do you find beauty and inspiration?

Beauty and inspiration is everywhere. When it comes to my work, I tend to find it in art and design, in natural and manmade landscapes, and in other people. My everyday surroundings and interactions are a continual source of inspiration.

On a dreary day, what do you do to infuse your life with a little bit of sunshine?

Dreary days are part of the Pacific Northwest landscape. The dearth of sunlight can be tough on the mind and body, but on the upside, it’s easier to hunker down and work. Oddly enough, I find that cleaning, organizing, or working up a sweat can help me shake off the bleakness. When all else fails, I turn to a movie, book, video game, or something delicious. A good story and something yummy to eat can do wonders for your state of mind!

What are you most grateful for?

I am most grateful for the people in my life.
