Hello, dear readers. Inherent in the mission statement of The Bright Side Project is the unspoken belief that to “Do What You Love, Love What You Do” is an absolutely essential component in creating a happy and healthy lifestyle. Every now and then, we will ask our contributors to answer a few short questions on the ideas of happiness, creativity and sunshine. We hope these rays of light help inspire you to find the sunshine in your day, today and everyday.
Today we are honored to introduce you to Marilyn from Meander Works.
Please introduce yourself to our readers and explain a little bit about your business.
Hi my name is Marilyn Brogan and I am an artist, designer and metalsmith working in sunny San Diego. I run a one woman studio, meaning I do everything from marketing to making to shipping on my own. That may make me sound like a control freak and well, that just might be the case! I like having creative control over my work and watching it progress through each step from designing to polishing. My designs are minimalist so my craftsmanship has to be really tight – the slightest mistake becomes super obvious so I take the details very seriously! I believe that it is an artist’s responsibility to make environmentally and socially responsible decisions–I use reclaimed materials from reputable suppliers to be certain the materials in my jewelry don’t harm the earth or the people who work with them.
We believe that one of the ways to achieve happiness is to “Do what you love, love what you do.” How does this philosophy apply to your life?
I get to make things for a living. There have been many times in my life when I didn’t think this was possible but I am doing it and I love it!
Our mission here at The Bright Side Project is to spread sunshine on a daily basis because we firmly believe that life is inherently beautiful. Where do you find beauty and inspiration?
In everything. Every small detail that makes up our world – a shiny wrapper discarded on the sidewalk, an acorn cap, a coffee mug ring, the smell of laundry drying, the sound utensils make on a ceramic plate, twigs, shells, a moth’s wing, a good poem, figs – really its all inspiring.
On a dreary day, what do you do to infuse your life with a little bit of sunshine?
Well this one is tricky because its almost always sunny here in SD. On the rare and precious occasion I tend to make a pot of tea and eat some cinnamon toast!
At this very moment, what are you most grateful for?
Cherries and peaches. At this very moment they are in season and I am in heaven!
