Hello, dear readers. Inherent in the mission statement of The Bright Side Project is the unspoken belief that to “Do What You Love, Love What You Do” is an absolutely essential component in creating a happy and healthy lifestyle. Every now and then, we will ask our contributors to answer a few short questions on the ideas of happiness, creativity and sunshine. We hope these rays of light help inspire you to find the sunshine in your day, today and everyday.
Today we are honored to introduce you to Rochelle from R. Pellicer!
Please introduce yourself to our readers and explain a little bit about your business.
Hi! I’m Rochelle Pellicer, the owner/designer/one-woman-show of R.pellicer. The name ‘R.pellicer’ is my first and last name but I felt weird putting my whole name out there like Donna Karen or Marc Jacobs so I choose to abbreviate. There are also a lot of family members with the same initials including my father so it’s also an omasage to them. The longer I do this the more I realize I probably should have used my whole name. I’m thinking of starting a sub-line called ‘Rochelle Rochelle’ because people always ask me about that popular episode of Seinfeld with Bette Middler.
We believe that one of the ways to achieve happiness is to “Do what you love, love what you do.” How does this philosophy apply to your life?
I have told people many times, and I’m not trying to sound like I have low self-esteem, but I’m not smart at all. Book smart I mean. It was brought to my attention in high school by my art teacher that I needed to figure out how to make a career being creative or else I would be in trouble. At that point, I knew I would have to go to art college. So to answer your question, I do what I do, because it’s the only thing I know how to do and do well. It’s just a plus that I love it too.
Our mission here at The Bright Side Project is to spread sunshine on a daily basis because we firmly that life is (still) beautiful. Where do you find beauty and inspiration?
Color is my first and foremost inspiration. I love rainbows. Rainbow Brite is my idol. I am not afraid of wearing lots of color either and even on days I wear black, my shoes or bag will be a bright color. You could be having a rough day and look out to see a beautiful gradient sunset and that will completely change your mood. Or walk into a dark red painted restaurant and instantly feel romantic. I used to live in New York but rarely visited the financial district… too much gray and black for me. It’s gotta be sunshine and lollipops for me everyday, all day.
On a dreary day, what do you do to infuse your life with a little bit of sunshine?
I can honestly say I don’t really have dreary days. My philosopy is it’s kind of a waste of time to have myself a pity party, so instead I channel it towards something creative… or go have a few glasses of white zinfindel… or I watch So You Think You Can Dance and then all is well with the world!
At this very moment, what are you most grateful for?
I am so grateful to have the basic necessities in life like clean running water, electricity, food, clothes, a home, a job, my health and family. The world is crazy right now and I have to appreciate that I don’t struggle like many others in the world. Sounds cliche or like some kind of pagent answer, but it’s the truth. I value everything I have and cherish each day like its the last day of the world.
