Sunshine Post :: Rachel Loves Bob

Tuesday, June 12, 2012

Hello, dear readers. Inherent in the mission statement of The Bright Side Project is the unspoken belief that to “Do What You Love, Love What You Do” is an absolutely essential component in creating a happy and healthy lifestyle. Every now and then, we will ask our contributors to answer a few short questions on the ideas of happiness, creativity and sunshine. We hope these rays of light help inspire you to find the sunshine in your day, today and everyday.

Today we are honored to introduce you to Rebecca from Rachel Loves Bob.

Please introduce yourself to our readers and explain a little bit about your business.

Hello my name is Rebecca. I am a London based designer and I sell under the alias of ”Rachel Loves Bob” – a homage to my sister’s beloved cat Bob who is sadly no longer with us. I sell a jewelry line with a strong influence in geometric forms alongside a range of cat illustrations and prints.

We believe that one of the ways to achieve happiness is to “Do what you love, love what you do.” How does this philosophy apply to your life?

I agree wholeheartedly. Although teaching was and is a very rewarding and stimulating career, it wasn’t what I really wanted to do. It was immensely challenging and financially risky quitting my job but the older I got the more I realised that what you fill your days with was, for me personally, far more important than any financial rewards. When it’s something you really want you somehow manage to make it work and I have never looked back.

Our mission here at The Bright Side Project is to spread sunshine on a daily basis because we firmly that life is (still) beautiful. Where do you find beauty and inspiration?

Beauty and inspiration come from everywhere. When I was teaching Art & Design I would tell students to SEE everything, keep your eyes open at all times, collect and record. This might just mean sticking a discarded sweet wrapper or train ticket into a sketchbook but inspiration is all around- from the cracks in the pavement to the patterns, the condensation on the window pane makes. I am always surprised by what inspires me.

On a dreary day, what do you do to infuse your life with a little bit of sunshine?

Ha, probably eat lots of comfort food (ie: food that is bad for you) and play sunny tunes.

At this very moment, what are you most grateful for?

That I am following my dreams and doing something creative every day and my cat, Michael,my baby. 🙂
