Hello, dear readers. Inherent in the mission statement of The Bright Side Project is the unspoken belief that to “Do What You Love, Love What You Do” is an absolutely essential component in creating a happy and healthy lifestyle. Every now and then, we will ask our contributors to answer a few short questions on the ideas of happiness, creativity and sunshine. We hope these rays of light help inspire you to find the sunshine in your day, today and everyday.
Today we are honored to introduce you to Stella from Stelliyah.
Please introduce yourself to our readers and explain a little bit about your business.
Hello, my name is Stella and I am a maker, metalsmith, jewelry artist and founder of Stelliyah. I started designing and making jewelry in 2009 and have never looked back since. It was something that just happened and before I knew it, Stelliyah was born. Creating was something I always loved. Before jewelry-making, I was religiously sewing bags and dresses, but I knew I found what I wanted to do for sure when I made my first piece of jewelry, inspired by a 19th century novel. I love it that the art of jewelry goes a long way back in history and that how jewelry is like a common language among the different cultures of the world. So anyway, after making my first piece of jewelry, I just kept going and am now a contented owner of Stelliyah.
We believe that one of the ways to achieve happiness is to “Do what you love, love what you do.” How does this philosophy apply to your life?
I am a person who live by this philosophy. To me, it is essential to do what we love and to love what we do because I believe it is what we do best. Of course, nothing comes easy and struggles are always there. Sometimes, others may doubt you and think your dreams are too far out or too idealistic, but only you know best what makes you happy. Of course, we have to be realistic in some ways, and it might take some of us a longer time to get to our dreams, but so long as you hold on to it and never let it go, you’ll get there.
Our mission here at The Bright Side Project is to spread sunshine on a daily basis because we firmly that life is (still) beautiful. Where do you find beauty and inspiration?
Almost anything actually. I find inspiration in art, science, literature and culture. Of course, many would agree with me that nature is definitely one of the biggest inspirations around. The best times of inspiration would be when I travel. It is the time I can really relax, leave everything behind me and allow my mind to be free. I am most intrigued by the artistic values of different cultures. A lot of my colorful jewelry are inspired by the Hmong, African, Peranakan and Mexican art and handicraft culture. I think beauty exists everywhere, it is really all about perspective.
On a dreary day, what do you do to infuse your life with a little bit of sunshine?
Coffee, cigarettes and a good book! And maybe some cake. I know it sounds cliche but it really is my go-to on a dreary day. Another option would be a trip to the museum. I become instantly comforted when I enter one, and when I am done, I go for my coffee and book. Coffee makes everything better!
What are you most grateful for?
My family, boyfriend, friends, and my two sunshine cats, Salt and Pepper. Also, I amvery grateful to be able to be who I am right now.
