Hello, dear readers. Inherent in the mission statement of The Bright Side Project is the unspoken belief that to “Do What You Love, Love What You Do” is an absolutely essential component in creating a happy and healthy lifestyle. Every now and then, we will ask our contributors to answer a few short questions on the ideas of happiness, creativity and sunshine. We hope these rays of light help inspire you to find the sunshine in your day, today and everyday.
Today we are honored to introduce you to Taryn from Talking Squid.
Please introduce yourself to our readers and explain a little bit about your business.
I began TalkingSquid in 2006, inspired by a love of texture mixed with a sense of purpose, social responsibility, and functionality. In 2011, I partnered with a local screen printing company in Portland, OR to make my products even more sustainable. Together we continue to work on reducing and re-purposing misprinted t-shirt material that would otherwise be useless waste in landfills. The material I use evokes an instant familiarity. TalkingSquid rugs wear and tear like your favorite t-shirt; they last a lifetime!
We believe that one of the ways to achieve happiness is to “Do what you love, love what you do.” How does this philosophy apply to your life?
I believe it wholeheartedly. My philosophy is “Work is love made visible.”
Our mission here at The Bright Side Project is to spread sunshine on a daily basis because we firmly that life is (still) beautiful. Where do you find beauty and inspiration?
I live in Portland so finding nature and beauty is just the easiest thing in the world. Spending time on the river, feet in the sand, or hiking and discovering plant life and slugs and bugs are some of my favorite things to do. I draw inspiration from nature, individuals style, and modern/contemporary/rustic interior designs.
On a dreary day, what do you do to infuse your life with a little bit of sunshine?
We have a lot of grey days here in Portland! I like to listen to upbeat music, watch a silly movie, or sew a prototype of a new product.
What are you most grateful for?
Friends, family, and the ability to make a living doing what I love.
