Sunshine Post :: Yellow Button Studio

Tuesday, June 26, 2012

Hello, dear readers. Inherent in the mission statement of The Bright Side Project is the unspoken belief that to “Do What You Love, Love What You Do” is an absolutely essential component in creating a happy and healthy lifestyle. Every now and then, we will ask our contributors to answer a few short questions on the ideas of happiness, creativity and sunshine. We hope these rays of light help inspire you to find the sunshine in your day, today and everyday.

Today we are honored to introduce you to Jessie from Yellow Button Studio.

Please introduce yourself to our readers and explain a little bit about your business.

Hello, my name is Jessie Schneider and I am a freelance Illustrator and Surface Designer living and creating out of Saint Paul, Minnesota. I am the sole owner and designer behind Yellow Button Studio. I spend most days as a freelance surface designer creating products for mass and boutique markets. Yellow Button Studio was created for me as a way to get back into making personal art that I can hopefully share with the world. I fill my etsy shop with archival prints for the office or home in a variety of sizes and original hand embroideries. I love to create work that is fun, lighthearted, and inspired. My inventory is always growing so be sure to check my shop often for new items that reflect my ever changing inspiration, and interests.

We believe that one of the ways to achieve happiness is to “Do what you love, love what you do.” How does this philosophy apply to your life?

This sentiment sums up how I live my everyday life. I fill my days working collaboratively on projects that I am excited about, and am able to make time to create new art and products for my etsy shop. I believe if you work hard enough at what you are most passionate about it all pays off in the end.

Our mission here at The Bright Side Project is to spread sunshine on a daily basis because we firmly that life is (still) beautiful. Where do you find beauty and inspiration?

I am constantly finding inspiration wherever I look. I am heavily inspired by nature and enjoy infusing my work with elements and textures that I find while I am out exploring. It can be as simple as taking my dog on a walk through the park to as difficult as climbing a mountain – I was recently on vacation and just accomplished this! I also enjoy all things from the past – the color palettes, typography, and patterns are all still so beautiful to this day and I like to add vintage touches to a lot of my pieces. Lastly I am so inspired by so many people that I meet through my artwork – it is truly amazing!

On a dreary day, what do you do to infuse your life with a little bit of sunshine?

On dreary days I tend to remember all the other little things that I want to accomplish, such as finishing that really great book I started ages ago, cooking/ baking more, and getting my to-do list checked off on all the little things I want done around the house. I find great accomplishment out of these days and that’s where I find my sunshine 🙂

At this very moment, what are you most grateful for?

I am so thankful for all the amazing support I have received to making the transition into doing what I love on a daily basis. My parents, my boyfriend, and my friends are all amazing people and I feel so fortunate to have them all in my life.

Ahh I love your artistic style, Jessie! You manage to lend SUCH texture to two-dimensional art. The transfer on your “Live Simply” print really sets it apart!!!
