Hello, dear readers. Inherent in the mission statement of The Bright Side Project is the unspoken belief that to “Do What You Love, Love What You Do” is an absolutely essential component in creating a happy and healthy lifestyle. Every now and then, we will ask our contributors to answer a few short questions on the ideas of happiness, creativity and sunshine. We hope these rays of light help inspire you to find the sunshine in your day, today and everyday.
Today we are honored to introduce you to Erika from Yellow Wallpaper Handmade.
Please introduce yourself to our readers and explain a little bit about your business.
Hi there, my name is Erika Aboites and I am the designer/needleworker behind Yellow Wallpaper Handmade handbags. Inspired by clean lines, interesting textures and classic colors; each YWH bag is designed, cut and sewn by me in my Southern California home. I sell my bags through my personal Etsy shop as well as in a few brick and mortar shops throughout the US and Australia.
We believe that one of the ways to achieve happiness is to “Do what you love, love what you do.” How does this philosophy apply to your life?
I decided to take on that statement when I opened up shop a few years ago. Doing what you love and loving what you do makes all the personal sacrifices you have to make when running a business worth it (and there are a lot).
Our mission here at The Bright Side Project is to spread sunshine on a daily basis because we firmly believe that life is (still) beautiful. Where do you find beauty and inspiration?
Depends on the day, but if my mind is open to it I can just take a walk outside and feel inspired. Especially this time of year, I know it’s cheesy but Fall brings out the most beautiful colors. On any other day, i’ll just thumb through books or magazines. I still have an obsession with print. My home is stocked full of magazines, books and catalogs. So just thumbing through some art books or interior design catalogs inspires me.
On a dreary day, what do you do to infuse your life with a little bit of sunshine?
I’ll bundle up and go outside. I love cold dreary days. We don’t get enough of those in Southern California. If that doesn’t work then I’ll have a drink, ha! I know that’s probably not the right thing to say but there’s something about having a celebratory type drink like champagne and flipping through a new magazine that makes a dreary day feel a bit more manageable. Especially if you have a mountain of wallets or bags waiting to be sewn. If you don’t drink, then ginger ale also works
What are you most grateful for?
My boyfriend, family and friends. Especially those that have been so supportive throughout the last few years. They’re the best and I love them tons.
